December 5th, 2011

Today’s article is for those of you who have tried diet after diet and you’re still hollering, “Please! Help me lose weight!” You and I both know… it’s because diets just don’t work, obviously, and not for very long either. If we were to be truthful here, diets may help you drop a few pounds in the beginning, but the results are most often short lived. It just stands to reason, most diets require you to restrict your caloric intake to the point, where your body is literally starving.

There for, not getting enough calories, slows your metabolism down, causing the loss of lean muscle tissue, depriving you of the fuel you need to perform, and causing your body to hold on to stored fat for energy.

In addition, diets are miserable, depressing, frustrating, and not sustainable over the long term. Seriously, how long do you think you can survive off of bananas and cabbage?

If you are one who has tried almost every diet on the market, than proper nutrition will give you better weight loss results than simply going on a diet.

Three Good Reasons Why

1. Healthy Foods Are Naturally Low in Calories

Unlike processed junk food we seem to eat daily, healthy foods like;

vegetables

fruits

legumes

beans

naturally raised meats

organic poultry

raw nuts

seeds

organic eggs

These are naturally low in calories. When you eat within reason, portions of these foods, you automatically reduce your caloric intake and the results are a lose of weight without feeling hungry, and nor do you feel angry about yourself or hungry.

This perhaps is just common sense and the nonsense lies in the processed foods. When you eat them, do you know, your body doesn’t have a clue what to do with all those calories. The answer is… they just get stored as fat. On the other hand when you eat nutritious foods, instead of processed junk, your body actually benefits from the calories so they are less likely to get stored as you know what… fat!

2. Proper Nutrition Helps Fuel Your Body

If you were to check this out, all nutritious eating is formed around you eating plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits and beans in your the diet. These foods will provide the healthy carbohydrates you need to fuel your body and keep your metabolism performing properly.

Those of you who come across diets that may tell you not to eat healthy carbohydrates, step back as fsst as fast as you can. One thing is for sure your body absolutely has to have healthy carbohydrates (healthy being the operative word) to survive.

3. Eating Healthy to Burn Fat

There is some great news. Yes, eating healthy that includes protein can help you build lean muscle tissue, which can also kick your metabolism into high gear. This is definitely a plus if you want to send that extra pounds packing.

When you eat protein rich foods, your body releases a hormone that helps you burn fat. Protein also helps make meals more filling so you eat less and fill satisfied, not hungry. So bring on the protein! Some of nutritious protein sources are naturally raised lean meats, organic poultry, beans, raw nuts and whole organic eggs.

The Question?

Why would anyone put themselves through the drama of dieting, just to become disappointed with the end results? Eating healthy is a much better option for dropping unwanted pounds. Remember though, nutritious eating is just one part of the weight loss puzzle. If you want to keep those results coming, get plenty of exercise and drink lots of water.

Todays Health Comments

For those who would like to become leaner and healthier for the long haul, not just some fad or a quick scheme to trick your body into losing pounds, than you should consider what makes common sense. The body only benefits from nutritious and healthy food, the rest the body has to place some where… storing up in places we would rather not have. To me eating healthy to burn fat would be more logical than starving one self.

Further Information

January 25th, 2011

Today, Peanut Butter, is most likely to be found in 9 out10 households in America. It is as popular as baseball and apple pie. Every kid has, at one time or another, enjoyed a peanut butter and jam sandwich, or grandma’s Peanut Butter cookies. Peanut Butter has been enjoyed by young and old for centuries. So what is the story behind peanut butter, healthy or unhealthy?

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a food paste made of;

primarily from ground dry roasted peanuts. Peanut butter is popular in the Philippines, North America, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. It is mainly used as a sandwich spread. However, it is used in manycombinations as an ingredients for its peanut butter flavor, such as cookies or ice cream.

Americans love peanut butter. We eat more than 700 million pounds per year, says the National Peanut Board.

January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day in the United States.

Healthy Or Unhealthy

This is where the tricky part comes in. It used to be that you just had basically two choices the creamy and crunchy peanut butter. Today you can find Organic, Natural, Creamy, Lowfat, Powdered, and Soy. Now, your crunchy peanut butter can come light or dark roasted. Creamy can be infused with chocolate (dark or white) or cinnamon and raisins (or just cinnamon) or molasses or coffee.

And there are savory options, such as hickory smoked, Thai ginger and red pepper, peanut butter blended with parsley and onions, or with hot peppers or with sun-dried tomatoes. This is just to please those who like their peanut butter.

Healthy

Peanut butter contains saturated fat and sodium, so how can it be considered a healthy food? That’s what a reader recently asked the Harvard Heart Letter. It’s a good question that gets to the heart of choosing foods that are good for health. Dr. Walter C. Willett, a nationally known nutrition expert and a member of the Heart Letter’s editorial board, tackled that question as part of the newsletter’s popular Ask the Doctor feature.

The presence of saturated fat doesn’t automatically kick a food, such as peanut butter, into the “unhealthy” camp. Olive oil, wheat germ, and even tofu—all considered to be “healthy” foods—have some saturated fat. It’s the whole package of nutrients, not just one or two, that determines how good a particular food is for health, Dr. Willett says in the July 2009 issue of the Harvard Heart Letter.

A typical 2-tablespoon serving of peanut butter has 3.3 grams of saturated fat and 12.3 grams of unsaturated fat. That puts it up there with olive oil in terms of the ratio of unsaturated to saturated fat. Dr. Willett notes that saturated fat isn’t the deadly toxin it is sometimes made out to be. The body’s response to saturated fat in food is to increase the amounts of both harmful LDL and protective HDL in circulation. In moderation, some saturated fat is okay. Eating a lot of it, though, promotes artery-clogging atherosclerosis, the process that underlies most cardiovascular disease.

Peanut butter also gives you some fiber, some vitamins and minerals (including potassium), and other nutrients. Unsalted peanut butter has a terrific potassium-to-sodium ratio, which counters the harmful cardiovascular effects of sodium surplus. And even salted peanut butter still has about twice as much potassium as sodium.

Numerous studies have shown that people who regularly include nuts or peanut butter in their diets are less likely to develop heart disease or type 2 diabetes than those who rarely eat nuts. Although it is possible that nut eaters are somehow different from, and healthier than, non-nut eaters, it is more likely that nuts themselves have a lot to do with these benefits.

Read the full-length article: “Why is peanut butter ‘healthy’ if it has saturated fat?”.

Peanut Butter Being Viewed Unhealthy

It may not be surprising that most peanut butter consumed, comes from brands which contain unhealthy and fattening additives. These additives include hydrogenated vegetable oil, refined sugar and stabilizers which have proven to be unhealthy and fattening.

Most non-organic peanut butters may come from crops which are rotated with cotton. These fields are treated with chemicals too toxic to be used on food crops, this residue can be transferred to the peanut crop, the following year. Health experts believe that these toxins are responsible for peanut allergies experienced by many individuals.

Hydrogenated oil, which is mainly used to prolong shelf life produces trans-fats which are a major cause of heart disease and many other health conditions. Refined sugar promotes blood sugar problems leading to obesity and robs the body of B vitamins. Mono and triglycerides are used as emulsifiers. Manufacturers claim they are a non-fat but do not have to state their source, their contribution to calories or whether they are hydrogenated.

Organic Peanut Butter

The only type of peanut butter which is healthy and non-fattening is unrefined, organic peanut butter containing only organic roasted peanuts with or without salt. No emulsifiers are used so the oil separates and settles at the top of the jar. The peanuts must be roasted because this process eliminates cancer-causing mold aflatoxins which can develop in raw peanuts. Roasting has the added benefit of increasing antioxidant potency.

Other Benefits of Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is fairly high in dietary fiber. This helps regulate blood cholesterol, blood sugar and weight.

Peanut butter contains several other nutrients which include protein, niacin, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and potassium. It also contains resveratrol which is an anti-microbial agent able to protect against bacteria, viruses and funguses. Other benefits of resveratrol included lowered risk of heart disease, cancer and slowing of the aging process.

A number of studies have shown that niacin rich foods like peanut butter protect against Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline.

Several nutrients in peanut butter have been found effective at cancer prevention. These nutrients include phytosterols, folic acid, phytic acid and resveratrol.

Todays Health Comments

Most always, the negative health effects, seemed to be associated with foods like peanut butter has to do with adding unhealthy ingredients to it, or refining it in a way which only benefits the manufacturer. Unrefined, organic peanut butter is very healthy and a wise choice for long term health maintenance. I believe this is why the controversy of the healthy or unhealthy.

Merry Christmas to all who find their way to this Article. It’s a day of Celebration through out the World. The Clauses bring with it, stories of the past, and I am sure there will be many into the future. It is what they, The Clauses, may represent that has taken on many meanings to us individually. You may like it or you may not.

A Short Story

Christmas would not be, with out a Short Story. This is one of many, but is perhaps not familiar, as the giving bishop of St. Nicholas, had only been portrayed with a wife after the short story “A Christmas Legend” (1849), by James Rees, a Philadelphia-based Christian missionary

This story as told, is about an old man and woman, whom carried a bundle on his back, pretending to be weary travelers, they were given shelter at this chosen home, by this couple on Christmas Eve. The children of the house, finding the next morning, an abundance of gifts for them. The weary couple are later revealed to be not “old Santa Claus and his wife”, but the couple’s long-lost oldest daughter and her husband in this disguise. Sounds like the CLAUSES to me, and a Merry Christmas.

Clauses and Relationships.

All what the Clauses portray on the outside…The HO… HO… Ho’s , Happiness, being Jolly, and Santa Clause and His Milk and Cookies have become a legend world wide. May be a little over fed but Mrs Clause certainly takes good care of him… so do the children. You always see them compassionate and loving. Something thats much needed today, LOVE. Loving one another and giving of themselves all year long. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy, all over inside! Do we all not just glow, like a Christmas bulb, when we give unconditionally. Perhaps a little on the Fairy Tale side. But children, when given to, just seems to bring out the best of our JOYS with the Clauses and Christmas.

For those who believe in the Story of Christmas… That it is, what it is, The CLauses are a part of what it is, all about. The Clauses bring your religious faith closer to your heart, your realtionship with Christ. The Clauses are like the opening performance, they get into your emotions and crank up the Spirit, before the Star arrives. For some people, they may feel disjointed at this time of year. I know, I was one for a period of my life. However, today living with his faith ( just my opinion) is much easier to feel the Spirit of Christmas. Amen.

The Naughty and Nice

As the story might lead to, since the beginning of time, those who have read this book, there have been the naughty and the nice. The Clause’s have been keeping a list of who has been Naughty and Nice …and then checking it twice. This has been held over numerous childrens heads by parents, for their child to behave themselves, or no Gift from Clauses at Christmas. However, there are those who feel more intune to be Naughty. The Chunk of Coal!

Naughty finds its Way Depsite the Clauses

Since the Clauses have shown up, the Naughty have tried to Steal Christmas and everything it stands for. We have heard from the Grinches, The Scrooges, Mizers, the Humb Bugs, and those everyday folks who just want to make people life miserable at this time. The Naughty have taken whats most precious, our lives. The month of December has the largest death toll for the month, traffic accidents related to alcohol, and suicide related. I have only one thing to comment about here. Celebration for the Naughty is usaully sad for those who loved them, and even more sad we forgot to tell them. So I love you all!

Todays Health Comments

One time of the year I can get off the beaten path and enjoy the Season. It is the Season to Rejoice, Celebrate, to love one another, to give to those in need, count your blessings, and spend this time with your love ones.
