You may wonder why this pastime joy has become so popular. Even people who have the resources to go to the grocery store and buy their food, are choosing gardening , perhaps for a healthier diet.

A Little History 

 The joy that comes from gardening originated, perhaps from our baby boomer values. Although gardening has been around since the beginning of mankind, it was  then necessary for man, survival, not a past time or hobby. Remember those golden hippie days of the 1960s, for those old enough to experience this era, part of  their cultural history was being in tune with  mother nature.This movement was to return back to  our natural roots and away from the routine  of modern society. This movement promoted the interest in vegetarianism, yoga, and natural eating within their own environment. 

After looking back,  these ideals, considered then to be radical values,   came from that era. The love of gardening is one of the good things we kept from that time.

Why Not, Nothing Bad Can Come from it!

Gardening is a past time that is unique  because virtually nothing bad can come of it. One reason gardening is a wonderful past time is that it`s simple.The worst thing that could happen is getting your hands dirty from tilling and planting, and perhaps a little sweat. No experience necessary; just a little tender loving care, water, and a little fertilizer.

Health Benefits 

Now you can be  really bad at gardening and not produce any food from your garden, perhaps just weeds, but the act of working with the earth and making something grow is so therapeutic that it`s worth the effort.

This  therapy I mentioned… comes from spending  the time working  on the garden after a stressful moment or day. While your  just watering, weeding, or harvesting the fruit of your labors, there is this sensation, a feeling that this garden happened because of you. Putting you in touch with nature, all those worries and anxieties seem to fade away, allowing you to take the proper perspective  of the situation.

Working with the soil and spending sometime nurturing and pouring your tender loving care into the garden can make those worries and anxieties of the office melt away. Then when you come in after an hour of gardening, those cares take on their proper perspective so you can deal with them.

For some, watering the soil, has almost a mystical regenerative power. It is so refreshing that you will look forward to your time with your garden as much as any other part of your day.

Then that day comes, you rush  to your garden, checking to see if the seeds have sprouted or the plants have given new life to the those young sprouts,can bring utmost joy to your heart. By becoming part of the cycle of nature when you care for the plants in your garden, it gives you a feeling of completion and connection to God and his creation.

Todays Health Comments 

  Gardening can be joyful…and a health benefit as well. I seriously enjoy every moment I can spare in my garden. Its a moment of Serenity and a stress relief. Therapy for those times when life is not going so well. I also find pleasure and joy in the moments when the vegetables are ready for the eating, and sharing with my family. Our peaches this year were just  delicious,and our grapes are about ready. I have found that the food from the garden just seems to taste better when you have personally had a part in the growing of them. I also now they are as organic as they are going to be and I will benefit from their vitamins and nutrients. Enjoy gardening for a healthier life.
