This article is not about burning desires or those burning emotions, it is much more than that!  It is just burning and burning, you continue to feel sometimes or perhaps every day. For those who experience this continuing  burning, they know all to well about the burning sensation in their chest, just behind the breastbone, the regurgitation of gastric acid, and the burning all the way down in the epigastrium.
 
The Epigastric Region Definition
It is not a muscle and nor is it an organ,  it is a body zone of activity, where the actions of the rectus abdominus and the diaphragm produce an outward bulging of the upper abdominal wall. It is also the spot where the, “Heimlich Maneuver”,  is able to produce a rapid and forceful exhalation of breath.
 

This  Medical Condition…

This is known as acid indigestion, or “Heartburn”.  Heartburn is usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid (gastric reflux) which is the major symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).  GERD  is chronic symptoms or mucosal damage caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus. A typical symptom is known as heartburn.
 
However it may also be a symptom of ischemic heart disease. Definition… Ischemic cardiomyopathy is a term that doctors use to describe patients who have congestive heart failure due to coronary artery disease. “Ischemic” means that an organ (such as the heart) is not getting enough blood and oxygen. “Cardio” means heart and “myopathy” means muscle-related disease.
 
Heartburn, prematurely may lead to misdiagnosis.The symptoms if not taken seriously are often confusing, this pain coming into the chestbone, feels like you are having a heart attack, and after arriving in the ER, find that you have just experience severe indigestion…Heartburn symptoms. However my wife experienced these same conditions due to the numerous medications and health situation, found she was having congestive heart failure. WARNING… check it out… it could save your life.  

Other Conditions Can Cause Heartburn

  • Peptic Ulcers   is a sore or lesion that forms in the lining of the stomach or duodenum.  
  • Hiatal Hernia Some people suffer from Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) because they have a hiatal hernia.  
  • Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. Several things can cause gastritis, one of which is chronic bile reflux. Although it doesn’t cause heartburn, some of the symptoms are similar to those produced by heartburn.
  • Gastroparesis is also called delayed gastric emptying, is a disorder in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. It often occurs in people with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

Solutions May Be Simple, To Complicated

What might be a simple solution for one person, might be complicated for another. Having an understanding of your circumstances is a place to begin. Professional help is advised. Though many people take over the counter products to relieve their burning, sometimes it is just not enough, no matter what. 

 Your eating and sleeping habits also play apart here. It may be leaving those spicing foods alone  or not eating them before you go to bed. Are you drinking too much sugary drinks and not enough water. Perhaps its much more serious, you know the symptoms and a trip to the Doctors office just may be the answer. What is being written here is… there are many causes to Heartburn and understanding your set of circumstances allows you get some relief. Sometimes a simple prescription or at extreme measures, surgery. 

 Todays Health Comments 

This burning sensation, that’s not only uncomfortable, can be misdiagnosed. Although you have experienced the chest pain or pressure before, do not underestimate the seriousness of this condition! You may be experiencing  something greater… call the Doctor or the local ER. As the need for your answers  can only be met by your set of symptoms, the trip to the store for anti acids may not be enough, if your condition continues. It may be as simple as changing your eating habits. That resolved mine completely, but for others, medical prescriptions or in extreme conditions, surgery may be the answer.
