<p>Today this may be a well deserved question, but most likely the <b>Food</b> Reserves are not given much thought past our own cupboards or the refrigerator. With hunger knocking on many people doors these days, a recently published article here, why is this subject something we even should consider as a health issue. Today  simply, as long as we are able to go to the store and find the necessities needed for our weekly  shopping, little thought is most likely given, regarding that if a natural disaster or an  unusual event such as wars or world crisis, how our <i>food</i> supply is stacked up, suddenly we all may be effected by such occurrences. So what&#8217;s the scoop regarding the national reserves kept for such purposes.</p>

However, like most laws of the  land, from our wise forefathers who brought this upon our nation, our fathers of today, have not taken heed to this reserve requirement. This requirement, in time of National Emergency, that all people had the most important mainstay needed for survival as individuals and as a country as a whole.</p>
<h2><strong>The 1960&#8242;s and the 1970&#8242;s</strong></h2>
<p>In theses years the political policies of our country, left this concept. Were they insane, perhaps!  Their decision to give the surplus grains, I actually rember this, which our elevators were bulging all over this country, to other nations. Too many to even mention. With this continuing  through <img class="alignright" src="http://www.etftrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/wheat.jpg" height="192" />out these decades, the reserves of grains, now  became empty! Now, no longer  elevators bulging but empty which were to be held for a national crisis.</p>
<p>The consequences paid to enhance the international frienship policies of other nations, paid for by our tax dollars, has no longer left these reserves, set up by our forfathers, available for us.</p>
<h2><strong>Now it is all but gone!</strong></h2>
<p>Did you know that by 1996, the US Department of Agriculture claimed that there was enough <u>food</u> in storage to last every man,woman, and child in the cities a 3day supply. Those living in the country a 5 day supply. So should a National Emergency occur, all food supplies came to a halt. the masses would have only days of food reserves.</p>
<p>Yet in 2003, the U.S.D.A. stopped measuring for the number of days in reserve. Only because no longer was the food supply for every man, woman, and child could not be measured in days, otherwords the amount of food in storage  drooped under a day! Yes, now it would be measured in pounds. So  how much did 300 million people have in the food chain to live on in 2003, there was 77 pound of food per person. This means after your 77 pounds is used&#8230;.its Totally Gone!</p>
<p>OK, now by Sept of 2005, there is now only 15.7 pounds of food stuff reserved in our food chain for all in the United States. This is very significant, as there has been a 80% decrease  in the past 2 years, That decrease is becoming greater with every passing day.</p>
<h2>The 15.7 Pounds of Survival Food consists of</h2>

<li>11.0 pounds of unprocessed of wheat</li>
</ol>
<p>4.7 pounds consists of<a href="PowderedMilk.jpg"><img class="alignright" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8b/PowderedMilk.jpg/220px-PowderedMilk.jpg" height="220" /></a></p>
<ol>
<li>Nonfat dry milk</li>
<li>Cheese</li>
<li>Corn by the bushel</li>
<li>Peanuts by the pound</li>
<li>Lentils by the pound</li>
</ol>
<p>This is not a daily supply, this is amount that was set aside at this time, today the amount was unable to be determined. This information was proclaimed by Alan Guebert of the Farm &amp; Food Report.  Mr. Guebert also commented that one more disater as the likes of hurricane Katrina or Rita against the United States, or anything to compare to such in whatever way, would  create such a food panic, it would make the New Orleans rioting look like the Mardi Gras!</p>
<h2>Todays Health Comments</h2>
<p>How sadly have we bought into to the fact that theses food reserves that our forefathers so wisely set into law, is no longer a concept or option we can count on. We either have to get our heads out of the sand and become concerned about the food shortage that now is prevalent. One out of every six people are facing food shortages today without any National Emergency&#8230; where will all us fall if the food supply in 2005 was  15.7 pounds, it is now six years later.</p>

<p>We are into a brand new year and new  marketing strategies will be placed upon us. New billboards with the scrumptious looking hamburgers that are seen on the way to work, local  junk food adds from the super market every Thursday, the TV every night, and do not forget, the upcoming Super Bowl and their enticing commercials.  The question on everybody&#8217;s mind&#8230; Are you eating Naughty, Naughty? <img class="alignright" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/69/Flickr_jef_31871680--In-N-Out_Cheeseburgers.jpg/220px-Flickr_jef_31871680--In-N-Out_Cheeseburgers.jpg" alt="" width="136" height="105" /></p>
<p><strong>The Fact is&#8230; Many of you are!</strong></p>
<p><strong>Why express the same old story&#8230; that we have a growing world wide problem of  obesity. Yes, this is not my first article on the subject. Naughty, Naughty, I am guilty of writing &#8220;<a href="http://todayshealthsite.com/naughty-foods-taste-so-good.html">Naughty Foods Taste So Good</a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href="http://todayshealthsite.com/why-naughty-is…nd-nice-is-not.html">Why Naughty Is Winning And  Nice Is Not&#8221;</a>.</strong></p>
<p><strong>WHY?</strong></p>
<p><strong>The fact is&#8230; 64%  of us, are unhealthily overweight!</strong> <em>&#8220;It is to the very  point where eating can and is actually endangering our lives.&#8221; </em>If  you have lived from the 50&#8242;s forward, you may have noticed that there have  been some individuals that have eaten unhealthily. This has escalated to where we are today mainly, because, &#8220;Naughty Foods Taste So Good&#8221;!  So we have chosen the naughty foods over the nice. The fastest growing segment of overweight and obese is our youth. The question is&#8230; When are the Naughty foods going to lose their presence and when are the adults going to take a stand and become examples?</p>
<p><strong>Merry Go Around</strong></p>
<p>Now the population as a whole  recognizes that naughty foods&#8230; which are loaded with all those calories and sugars, yet have this mentality that I will enjoy my naughty food today and diet tomorrow. Unfortunately, the same thought process continues each day until adverse health effects emerge. That another note, is why dieting has become a household word. So many people are on this merry go around where they eat, diet, and the eat again. How many people do you know like that?</p>
<p><strong>Is it, our<em> conscious thought</em><em>?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>It is just another article, on  a subject that  everybody knows, leading to this problem, but it  just has not sunk in yet. Perhaps it just doesn&#8217;t want to be heard! The answer is, if this just reaches just one persons conscious thought and  results in taking action , than this was all worth it. So with some thought, are your actions here today, leading  to some conscious thought that these Naughty Foods may be hazardous to your health!</p>
<p><strong> Warning Labels&#8230;Health Issues</strong></p>
<p>&#8220;Although may be part of the label, the fine print that doesn&#8217; t get read anyway.  It&#8217;s the grams of sugar or it&#8217;s calorie count that is being ignored. Our consensus, is most people eat by what may make them feel good, or by how sweet it is, or how good it taste going down, or just how much I can eat, based on my emotion at the time.&#8221; dj author Naughty Foods Taste So Good<img class="alignright" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2a/Soft_drink_shelf.JPG/220px-Soft_drink_shelf.JPG" alt="" width="176" height="132" /></p>
<p> <em>Why obesity is becoming  a major concern&#8230;</em> If this was an illness or disease that was impacting  64% of the population, with the many health issues, it would be consider a national epidemic. Yet unlike the underdeveloped countries where many face starvation, obesity doesn&#8217;t exist.  So if you live in the land of plenty&#8230; we eat with same mentality&#8230; plenty.</p>
<p> The fact that it is easier for us to put on weight but harder for us to shed it. Now our elderly group are facing the greatest effect of being over weight. It can put unnecessary stress on the joints and accelerate the affects of arthritis, osteoporosis and other bone and muscle disorders and illnesses.</p>
<p>It can also bring about the onset of diabetes, which is more common in seniors than in any other age group as it is.</p>
<p><strong>Today&#8217;s Health Comments</strong></p>
<p>It all comes down to identifying these naughty foods. You and I know, moderation is the key here. While a  little of what he or she loves to eat, no matter how unhealthy it may be, is not going to have a dramatic impact, so long as the sugars and calories are a consideration, with routine exercise. What you must keep in conscious thought, is maintaining  a balanced nutritious diet.  A well balanced diet can boost your health, but a poor diet can actually cause it to deteriorate. By eating healthily on a regular basis, you can  change your diet and reap the rewards.</p>

This may also may be time to pay special attention to your <em>health</em>. <strong>This time of the year can be a time of indulgence and our health may take a back seat to all those goodies.</strong>  To help you with healthy choices, we have hand picked some of our past articles with a brief overview of the article that might become useful through the Holiday Season. </p>

<p>Todays article is melody of articles that perhaps may be of help through the Holiday Season. I believe our senses are tuned into them once we have indulged. This time of year we have to work extra hard to maintain a a proper <a href="http://todayshealthsite.com/mindset-diet-and-health.html">&#8220;Mindset, Diet, and Health</a>, if we are to succeed in maintaining a healthy diet. </p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff"><strong>To Give Thanks!</strong></span> </p>
<p>To be thankful for our families, friends, and our freedom to believe and worship our God, is certainly something to celebrate. I am so thankful for all, we sometimes forget this. Yes,with all the food that seems to get laid out on table on this day,  then all the left overs, that it seems we are eating all the time. What we sometimes forget is those healthy dishes can become more delightful with spice, and you literally can <a href="http://todayshealthsite.com/spice-up-your-health.html">Spice up Your Health</a>! As we are getting prepared for the festivities, digging out the traditional recipes, maybe this is the time to discover how much sugar you might be using in each recipe. <p>But can you really do it.  The odds  may be against you. Perhaps that&#8217;s why the naughty foods are winning  you over in the market place. Every day, every where you go,  where you  eat,  or where you  shop.</p>
<p><strong>Perhaps I should put a definition to whats classified as naughty foods.</strong> Some would say there are no naughty foods if you eat in moderation, perhaps they are right. So if you eat one backyard greasy hamburger a year, its not going to make a difference, now if you are eating 2 Big Macs every day, that&#8217;s another story.So by example if you take a food that creates a health problem do to excessive amounts, then it could become your Naughty food.</p>
<p><em><strong>Naughty foods seem to come in the fast food category much more frequently</strong></em>,  the chips, candy bars, hamburgers, french fries, soda pop, and many more, because they easily consumed and quick to run with when you are on the go.</p>
<p> The marketing with vending machines ,recognized this, and fill their machines full of the naughty stuff. They then place them in strategic locations!   Have you ever noticed how they always happened to be in places or businesses where you have to wait for periods of time or they know you are going to work up an appetite.</p>
<p>If you have had children attending various functions, like basketball games, or football games, even dance recitals, there seems always to be venders selling their hamburgers or hot dogs,what is a game with out those folks.</p>
<p> The last time I went to the gas station,  thinking about this article, before me,there was the donuts, candy bars, snacks, right in my face. How do people resist? There were several shelves full of different temptations, by the check out stands, forcing ones eyes to stare upon them.</p>
<p> My last example  is to look at  a restaraunt menu&#8217;s and see the space that is dedicated to the Naughty Foods and you have to search or even have to ask if they even have something that is good for you ( Nice food). If they do not , do you walk out, or order anyway. Do not answer that one, for I already know what most folks do.</p>
<p>I personally believe that most people prefer the taste of naughty food over nice food,  going down the hatch. We then mentally excuse oursevles for the unwritten crime we just committed to our body. Having not what it takes to fight off  the temptations, no will power is needed to say no, shame on us, we are just giving in. You know you heard all the lines, you just could not resist, its just one time, I&#8217;ll do better tomorrow.</p>
<p><strong>Unless we all find the way to our own personal strength to say no, the obesity epidemic that is becoming known to most, because we are part of it, will continue to have a dramatic impact on our lives.</strong></p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff">WHY?</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong><span style="color: #000000">The fact is&#8230; </span>More and more people are unhealthily overweight!</strong></span> <span style="color: #ff0000"><strong><em>&#8220;It is to the very  point where eating can and is actually endangering our lives.&#8221;</em></strong></span></p>
<p> There has always been some individuals that have eaten unhealthily, mainly because, <strong>&#8220;Naughty Foods Taste So Good&#8221;!  </strong>Now the population as a whole,  considering how we eat these days, are we are getting the right amounts of nutrients.</p>
<p><strong>Is it our<em> conscious thought</em> <em>about what we put into our bodies</em> &#8230; essential?</strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff">Why another article on  a subject that  everybody claims to know but doesn&#8217;t want to listen! The answer is, if this just reaches just one persons conscious thought and  results in taking action , than it was all worth it.</span></strong></p>
<p>Perhaps before our intake of all those naughty foods, which are loaded with all those calories and sugars, you know the ones I am talking about, the ones some people would die for (literally), a bell would go off in our heads, saying &#8220;What I am about to eat is hazardous  to my health&#8221;!</p>
<p>For some people, warning labels&#8230;are just another part of the lable or the fine print that doesn&#8217; t get read anyway, let alone it&#8217;s grams of sugar or it&#8217;s calorie count. Our consensus is most people eat by what may make them feel good, or by how sweet it is, or how good it taste going down, or just how much I can eat, based on my emotion at the time.</p>
<p>If some one has come up as to why obesity is becoming  a major concern&#8230;is because food is readily available  in most countries, unlike the underdeveloped countries where many face starvation. Those countries who proclaim to live in the land of plenty&#8230;eat with same mentality&#8230;plenty.</p>
<p><strong>As we get older</strong>, our metabolism slows down and we can no longer burn calories at the same rate as we used to. Fact, it makes it easier for us to put on weight but harder for us to shed it. Having said that, our elderly group face the greatest effect of being over weight. Being overweight can put unnecessary stress on the joints and thus accelerate the affects of arthritis, osteoporosis and other bone and muscle disorders and illnesses. It can also bring about the onset of diabetes, which is more common in seniors than in any other age group as it is.</p>
<p>While a  little of what he or she loves to eat, no matter how unhealthy it may be, a regular balanced nutritious diet is just what the doctor orders!</p>
<p>A well balanced diet can boost your health, but a poor diet that does not fulfil all bodily nutritional requirements can actually cause it to deteriorate.</p>
<p>All should enjoy life to the fullest extent, but eating healthily on a regular basis can actively extend the amount of time you have left to enjoy it! Make the most of  life. Revolutionize your diet and reap the rewards</p>
