Today’s Health Article

Sept 17th, 2011

Today, just a normal day. We may some of us may be found working out the gym, doing the yard work, exercising, working hard, or any other physical exercise that heats up our body. We just may live in a climate that just is hot! Whether it be from exertion  physical or just hot, our body senses that we are warming up and needs to cool down. From  and during this process sweat normally occurs.

Sweat

Now Sweating is today’s release of a salty liquid from the body’s sweat glands. Some folks call this perspiring and is titled perspiration. We most of the time just understand that it is just how our body cools off, and most of the time know we feel we have no control over it’s presence. Sweat is normally found under the arms, on the feet, and on the palms of the hands and other parts of the body as well.

Just how much you sweat depends on  just how many sweat glands you may have been born with.  A person can be born with two to four million sweat glands. These Sweat glands usually  become fully active during our puberty.  Although women today, have more sweat glands then men,  men’s glands are found to be more active.

Sweating is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. This system is part of the nervous system that is not under our control. Taking that in mind, this is why understanding  the Sweats today may be important tomorrow.

 Cold Sweats

A cold sweat  is something that some people deal with on a regular basis. Unlike the sweat when exposed to heat or exertion, a cold sweat, people find that their skin starts feeling very cold.

The main areas that a cold sweat affects are the feet, hands as well as the underarms and palms. That being said, cold sweats are extremely uncomfortable and  most people don’t want to have to deal with them.

One of the most dangerous Cold Sweat Symptoms  is actually life-threatening for those people who are having or about to have a heart attack. Also those who experience or go through shock or have suffered a terrible injury will sometimes feel a cold sweat coming on. This is the body’s natural reaction to do so. When this does happen, it’s very important for those people to make sure that they get to a hospital, as fast as possible.

Other Cold Sweats may not be as serious as a heart attack or other life-threatening  situations, but if you have not experience these before, cold sweats certainly need to be understood. Today for example, you can experience a cold sweat because the body has low blood oxygen levels and understand why. Perhaps if a person has low blood pressure or if a person has low blood sugar,  cold sweats may also occur. Although low blood-oxygen level, low blood pressure or low blood sugar are not  considered life-threatening, however, they will impact your health,  and if medical attention  is not given, may get worse over time.

Hot Sweats

There are people all over the world that  have suffered from Hot Sweats. The most popular being  recognized by or caused from menopause. These hot sweats also known as “Hot Flashes” which mainly occur at night. This is very common in women that are going through menopausal transition.  Today these Hot Flashes are a normal response to the hormonal changes in the body and usually go away after the first or second year following menopause. There are treatments available to either reduce or stop moderate hot sweats.

When people think about Hot Sweats, they usually associate this with women. Men can suffer from night sweats too and there are several reasons this could be happening. Some people believe that men go through male menopause that causes them to have these symptoms. There are some serious conditions that could be causing …

Male hot flashes such as,

  •  HIV or AIDS,
  •  heart condition with high cholesterol,
  • arthritis,
  • stroke,

It is best to get a diagnosis from the doctor to rule out anything serious.

Taking certain medication

They can also cause Hot Sweats with the most common being cause from antidepressants. Medicines to lower fever such as aspirin has been known to cause hot sweats as well. People who take insulin or oral medication for their blood sugar find themselves suffering from these symptoms too. Usually night sweats are not a serious thing but if you suffer from fevers or any other troubling symptoms, it may be best to check with your health care provider to rule out any kind of serious medical problems.

Hot Sweats can also be caused by a more serious disease such as cancer. Your doctor will more than likely give you an exam that will include blood work to determine why you are suffering these symptoms. Make sure you evaluate your sleeping environment before contacting a doctor. Make sure you don’t have too many blankets, the thermostat is not too high, or sleep in lighter clothing. After all this, you find things are not getting any better, it is time to call the doctor to determine what is causing your hot sweats.

Today’s Health Comments

Today it is important to understand that sweating may just our natural means of cooling off, or it could be signs of serious matters. I  have had never really understood why cold sweats and  I have taken a liking to each other. When I am about to get sick or a cold, instead of a high fever, mine goes the other way. Since understanding these symptoms I can load up on the chicken soup and fluids. Sometimes sweats are your warning, and we need to listen to our body signs, and seek professional help when needed.
